In 1818, a banker called Jacques Laffitte bought the castle of Maisons-Laffitte and its land. From the start it included an area dedicated to horse racing, organised by Laffitte’s son Charles and his son-in-law the Prince of Moskowa. The racecourse officially opened its doors in 1878 and was bought by the Racing Society in 1892. The Maisons-Laffitte racecourse is built alongside the Seine borders, on 92 hectares of land.
